100 Days of Gratitude: Day 46

Do you ever ponder about what your life might be like if you didn’t live in Australia? What if you lived in a country where civil liberties didn’t exist? Where women being educated was frowned upon? or education didn’t exist? Where women are considered belongings to be bartered with or sold off or married off as soon as possible? What if you lived in a country where freedom of speech didn’t exist? Where you didn’t’ have the opportunity to choose who governs the country or have the right to be able to choose who/what your religion/belief system was going to be? What if you lived in a country where you didn’t have access to running water or electricity or you lost your entire family to genocide just because oyu were the wrong colour/race/religion? What if you couldn’t afford to eat? What if you were homeless? What if you lived in a place where violence was so endemic that walking to the local shops was considered highly risky?

Do you ever think about these things? Do you have any idea of how lucky you are?

No matter what your situation is at the moment – if you live in Australia, have roof over your head and a job (even if you’re on welfare!) you are more wealthy than 90% of the worlds population – did you know that?

Do you take it for granted?

I am Grateful for living in Australia, no matter what is going on here politically or economically it still is a lucky country.
